SP2 install and 'Check Files In Use'

  • Hi

I am installing SQL Server 2012 Service Pack2. The OS is Windows 2012R2. When I go through the install wizard there is a screen that "Check Files In Use". The reported file in use is WmiPrvSE.exe. Is this file anything to be concerned about? How should I go about investigating this? Has anyone else run into this?

    Thanks

    Kathy

  • I ran into this issue when applying the sp2 to our dev and UAT servers. I took note of the process number and killed the service via task manager. I then reran the file check. I then proceeded with the sp2 install with no issues.

I would be interested if I have done something wrong, but it doesn't look to have caused any ill effects.
