SP2 for SQL Server 2005

  • Guys

I have quick question, I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 SP 2. The server OS is Windows 2003 how will I know which

    ones to from below

    SQLServer2005SP2-KB921896-IA64-ENU.exe

    SQLServer2005SP2-KB921896-x64-ENU.exe

    SQLServer2005SP2-KB921896-x86-ENU.exe

More specifically what bit is Windows 2003 and Win XP, how will I find the bit of a machine with Windows OS.

    Thanks

  • IA64 is if you have an Itanium 64 bit Machine and SQL Server

x64 is if your running the normal 64 bit SQL Server

X86 is for all others ( normal 32 bit SQL Server)

    Hope that this helps

    Eric

  • one last thing....

To determine which one you have installed, click on the properties for your SQL Server instance, and look on the

    GENERAL Page

    >>>> Product : Microsoft SQL Server (Standard/Enterprise/Developer) Edition (64-Bit)

The 64 bit will only appear if your running a 64 bit SQL server.   If your running 32 bit there will not be anything following the "edition"

    EP

  • Thanks for the info Eric

One more question is it safe to patch the SQL Server with SP2, or do we have to wait for any validation from Microsoft or any other agency.

    Thanks

  • i installed it on my PC and a reporting server that i set up for myself and is not production. For prod we are going to install it in QA and dev servers first and then prod once everything is OK

    Question:

If it's Itanium 64-bit then what would it say in

    Properties/general tab?

    Thanks,
