So, What Can You Do With the "Custom Reports" in SQL Server Management Studio?

  • If you right-click on various objects in SQL Server Management Studio (in the Object Explorer window), one of the menu items is "Reports". If you select that, you usually just see "Custom Reports" and then nothing.

So, what can you do with these "Custom Reports?" How do you define a Custom Report? Is this just something that Microsoft has included for backwards compatibility, or have I been missing out on a cool feature all these years?

  • They're SSRS reports you build.

Here's an article on it: http://www.simple-talk.com/sql/sql-tools/custom-reports-in-management-studio,-using-the-performance-dashboard/

  • Ah, very cool! I'll have to try out the Performance Dashboard. I can think of some other reports I'd like to add, too.
