Test post only!
February 26, 2004 at 9:48 pm
Well, I can see multiple lines, and...
...if there's a blank line there (and now that I've previewed it, I know there is!), don't have to use <br /> to format my posts anymore. Yay!

hey, hey, this is a reply using Mozilla Firefox (I like the name Firebird more)
No nice emoticons, but therefore much faster.
Strike!

No nice emoticons |
But you can still type the text equivalent
eg <colon>O <colon>sick<colon> <semicolon><rightbracket>
Far away is close at hand in the images of elsewhere.

I could probably get the emoticons back, but probably just as well to leave light weight.
February 27, 2004 at 12:03 pm
As for me, it's completely okay without them

Andy, just made the experience that copy and paste of a username does NOT work in Mozilla like in IE. Mozilla pastes as plain text while IE keep the hyperlink behind.
FWIW

I think that makes sense, it's truly just text.

I only discovered today by accident that there had been further replies and turning off the emoticons makes the site more usable.
However why am I not getting email notifications. I believe they work when my email address is myname@myclub.com but not when myname@dsl.pipex.com.
Does the site software have a problem with @dsl.pipex.com ???
I will try leaving it as myname@myclub.com with forwarding to myname@dsl.pipex.com until I work out what the problem is.
By the way for some months now I try to avoid publishing my email address in freetype on any web site sure cuts down the spam.

Glad the switch to turn things off helps. I dont think its the software, I show 14 messages sent to that domain in the last 7 days, 12 of them to you. Of course its SMTP so who knows. I'll try to check on bounces, might want to ping your provider see if they have us blocked for some reason.
Totally agree about not exposing email address, we plan to hide everyone of ours on the site and to encourage users to not post theirs. The PM system we have now should cover the need to send an initial note to someone - assuming that we can the email delivered of course!

Hi Andy, I did not get the message above, and I certainly have not received 12 notifications in the last 7 days.
Rather strange. I am not aware of problems with missing emails from anyone else sending to my original address.
I'll try leaving forwarding on as at present but leave a copy of the emails in the address I am using for forwarding. That way if I find an email which has not been received, I will know there is something wrong with my original ISP.

I think I got a sort of answer from my ISP. They blocked various ISP's because spam was coming from users on that ISP.
They seem to think they were doing their users a favour and the users could always ask the person who sent the email to resend it. How we would know if we didn't receive an email, they failed to answer but the problem seems to be resolved now.
