I believe that the answer to this topic is incorrect. Per the above URL for sql2008, both Enterprise and Standard editions support Snapshot Replication. As Developer and Enterprise editions support the same feature sets, it would not make sense to select that choice as it would not cover the Standard edition. Therefore I believe that my answer is correct (Dev + Std). Another alternative would have been Standard, Enterprise, and Developer editions (which would have been the best answer).

Part of what this question attempts to point out is there is a long list of features available in the Enterprise version NOT available in the Standard version.
The CIO would probably understand if it was explained in terms of Cost Per Processor. As the Enterprise version costs roughly ten times that of the Standard, it is pretty obvious here that what you purchase from Microsoft with the Enterprise version are its features.
Microsoft provides the Developer with an Enterprise version, but it is not licensed in the same manner. So while technically, you could create a snapshot by writing a backup of the server each day to your laptop, and then publishing the snapshot, it sort of defeats the purpose of having a snapshot readily available.

It is unfortunate that the question did not mention anything about cost or licensing, but only what was possible. Snapshot replication *is* possible with Standard edition, which is why I questioned the resultant answer. It may have been better to focus on a different feature that really was NOT available in Standard edition if that was to be the focus of the question.

Snapshot replication and database snapshots are not the same. If you look at your link under High Availability you will see that "Database snapshots" are only available for Enterprise. Below is the BOL link for more information on database snapshots (which also mentions that this is a feature only available in Enterprise edition).

The question was for database snapshots, not snapshot replication, but I can see where the confusion would lie. I have never heard a replication snapshot called a "snapshot of xxx database", but perhaps people do call it that.
I have reworded the question, and added a link to the database snapshot item in BOL.
I will also award back points.

It is really nice to have a developer edition with all the features that exists in Enterprice, but it is too easy to build a database solution that is not supported by the production server if it is another version then Enterprice.
