Every time I start the snapshot step of my Transactional replication it fails in Sql Server 2008. Why can't I just use a restored database. I am not sure what to do with this error message.

well, you have not written anything else about your setup. If you want your subscription to be created from a backup instead of snapshot, please follow http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms151705.aspx.
If you want to troubleshoot why the snapshot agent is failing, you would need to tell more about your setup. Also based on the error you have pasted, the error message is:
"Either the object or one of its properties is not supported on the target server version."
This means that snapshot is not able to connect to publisher/distributor because one of them is not SQL 2008. Do you have mixed setup in your environment? If yes, please write in details.

Those are some great questions that I will need to research. The article indicates that backup restore are a better solution for large databases. I'll let you know what I find

it's about compatibility level difference between source and dest. databases. or sql servers versions.
