snapmanager for sqlserver

  • Hi Guys,

We have an application (confirmit) that dynamically create, activate and deactivate databases. There are over 7000 databases in a single instance. Among the 7000 databases, only 10 percent of the databases are activated and the rest are in the deactivated state; though the deactivated databases can be activated at anytime once the database is accessed or updated. We are searching a way to setup the BCP for this database but yet to come up with a valid solution. We are exploring our options to use Netapp snapmanager for sqlserver. I have never done this before nor anyone in our company. By searching around, I didn’t' find any documents, whitepapers related to setup the process. I am wondering if any of you has related experience or any other suggestions in terms of setup the bcp environment. Any links/input is highly appreciated.

    Thanks

When you say 10%, meaning 700db's active at a same time on the server !

Just curious to know the environment ?

What is the purpose of bcp that you want to implement ?

Let us know to answer better !

    Cheers !

I work only to learn Sql Server...though my company pays me for getting their stuff done;-)

  • morning guys,

that's correct, 10% will be 700 dbs. confirmit is an application for surveys, each survey will create a database. If a survey is not active within 24 hours, the db will be flagged as 'inactive'; but then it will be activated again once it is updated afterwards. When the BCP environment was first built, it wasn't built to handle the volume of the databases as the db data itself grows as well the number of dbs. I am an oracle dba that is recently taking over this project, though I have managed some sql server dbs before but this one is a different animal. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    regards,

    danny
