Snap-in Failed to Initialize??

  •

    We have installed SQL Server 2000 on a Windows 2000 Advance Server.

    On a different PC we map to the server and try and run the Enterprise manager, but keep on getting -

    Snap-in failed to initialize

     Name: Unknown

     CLSID:{00100100-1816-8EF5-00AA0062C58F}

    why?

    Do we have to install anything on the actual PC??

  • If you want administer sql from the PC, install the client tools on that PC. This will set details in the registry and install the snap-in required.

  • Thanks

  • We have a processor license on for the server....will we need to get separate licenses for the PC's that will have the client tools?

    You do not need to configure any licensing options when installing the SQL Server 2000 tools only. However, when using the tools to connect to SQL Server, you will be governed by the End-User License Agreement (EULA) for the appropriate Licensing model chosen for the SQL Server to which you are connecting.

    If you have a Processor License on the target SQL Server, you do not require a seperate Client Access License to use the tools. If you have a Server License on the target SQL Server, you need a Client Access License to connect to the SQL Server.
