SMSS 2008

  • Can I use the SMSS 2008 client to administer my 2005 databases?

  • I believe you should be able to, just like you can use SQL 2005 SSMS to administer SQL 2000 database.

Just remember that there could be a few features that you cannot use on the non-SQL2008 database, but you should still be able to use the SQL 2005 features. This was much more of an issue with using SSMS on SQL 2000 database.

  • Also be aware that it won't connect to SSIS 2005.

    Really? Now that's not good!

  • Other than SSIS 2005 is there anything else that won't work?

  • Hard to know exactly what might not work. Not sure it's been exercised enough, but most things should work.

  • Anyone know where I can get a copy of SMSS 2008? Just to try of course...
