Small help from Masters required!

  • SQL champions, I am new to SQL BI and wanted to learn the SSAS and SSRS part. Can you suggest me which thing I need to start learning first. Though I am not a master in SSIS but I know it at least well. I was thinking of dependencies between SSAS and SSRS.

    As always,

    Thanks for your help!

  • I am neither a master in those but wanted to share a thought.

The choice depends on what is that you looking to and also how much are you interested in developing interactive slice and dice SSAS Cubes and work with Data Mining technologies of SQL Server (SSAS)

    OR

Designing and developing different kinds of reports that may be chart based, matrix, drill through, event driven and subscription based reports etc..(SSRS)

I am sure the experts in those fields suggest better than me..

Well, the choice depends on whether you want to be a BI developer or a DBA who wants to get his hands on with BI tools.

As the Administrative tasks can be learned in any order and will remain the same throughout the BI, might get little complex depending on what you are trying to do. Like deploying SSIS packages, deploying reports and administering analysis services database.

Whereas if you want to develop things using SSRS or SSAS then the choice depends on you. Starting with SSRS would be a better option as SSAS would take you into the Datawarehouse concepts..
