Hi,
i have SQL 2005 Ent. on windows 2003 server Ent.
Here is my hardware config:
HP ProLiant ML370 G5
2 x intel Xeon Dual core 2.66ghz processors
2 x 512Mb Raid Controllers
First controller has:
Data base drive is a raid 5 10k rpm SAS drives 6 x 146Gb
OS raid 1 2x72gb
Second controller:
Index raid 0 2x146
Logs raid 1 2x72gb
Backup raid0 2x146gb
My database size is 150gb it's taking 4 hours to do the sql backup on the drive with raid 0
i have and older sql server nowhere near the specs of this one and it was able to do the backup of the same database in half the time on the same drive as the database (raid 5)
i have ran diagnostics on all the drives passed with flying colours
Can anyone help?

First, I wouldn't use R0. Backups are important.
Second, if you run a smaller backup, say 1GB, is it a similar rate of things being written?

i backup up to disk then to tape my backups do not stay on the disk more then 12 hours
i have 2 database in the same maintenance plan one is 150gb and the other is 1.3gb 1.3 take about 2 minutes
now i also have another server with the same technologie and software and that one did it in 37minutes go figure on a raid5 setup.

Is your database getting used a lot during database backup operation? Check what are the other operations running on the same database during database backup time.
Also, is this disk array getting heavily used simultaneously during the backup opeation. Check with the help of perfmon counters.
