We installed SharePoint 2010 on SQL 2008 and with it we had about 18 databases installed with names like 'Managed Metadata Service_fd8c8bac416349a1af8463947b9c771c' and 'PerformancePoint Service Application_c1de80ec859e49deab165e637d85bc74'. Really nasty names...I knew from working with Sharepoint in a previous life that the names were bad and I asked our vendor to change them during installation, but he didn't or couldn't- not sure which.
Anyone have experience with changing the names to something much shorter and sweeter? I'm planning on making the changes in our sandbox environment first, but was wondering if there was anything I should be aware of.
Thanks!
Anita

Some article said you could change the names of most of the databases during installation. This was 2007, so I don't know if it is still possible for SharePoint 2010.
