Does anyone work on SharePoint here? How do you implement archiving?
I need to do some research on this. Any input would be much appreciated.

We have WSS setup in two seperate development environments where I work. Apparently, we also of a development server with MOSS 2007, but I haven't seen it nor do I know how that one was installed.
So what are you asking? Your question is actually rather vague.

I have a database is over 0.5 TB after 2.5 years. If the business has no need to keep the old data, whether we can move the related contents to an archiving site/database. Seems Microsoft has no direct answer for this. I heard that some 3rd party products could do it.
I want to know how the other people handle this situation.

Okay. We have only just begun (isn't that a song?) so I can't really help you there. It is certainly something we will need to look at as we move forward. Please keep me posted via this thread if you find anything interesting on this from other sources.

Turn off the machine?
I guess you could just convert the physical to a VM, save it off somewhere on tape? Maybe the same thing for the db?

Microsoft has a whitepaper mentioned about capacity planning and deletion feature.
There third party applications available for archiving with a big cost $$.
