Hi
Could anyone tell whether we can use a common shared disk for backup which can be used by the multiple instances that sit on a single node?
If yes, could please tell me the steps to setup a common backup disk for all the instances on a single cluster node?

Hi,

Regarding Sharing single disk for all Installed Instances in a cluster. If I am not wrong we cannot do that as If we add a specific disk into a resource then next time you will not be able to choose it again for different resource.

Even I am also of the opinion that we can't use the common shared disk for backups. I just want to take expert's opinion just for confirmation.

Well, you could always test ... but AFAIK, you can not do this as SQL can not access disk that is not part of it's resource group and each instance needs their own disks per resource group and you can't have multiple instances in a resource group.

In my experience, it's always better to back up your databases to a different location on the network. Don't want all your eggs in one basket.

Suppose we create a backup device for each instance on a disk (Disk to which each of the instances on a cluster have access to) which is not part of any of the cluster resource groups owned by the instances, then can we point all the backups to that shared disk? Do you mean this?
