I created a Maintenance Plan with several sub-plans. Each sub-plan became an agent job that appears below SQL Server Agent icon in SSMS Object Explorer.
I have Notifications setup for each sub-plan: Write to the Windows Aplication event log: When the job fails.
I'd like to either (or both):
1) Setup Logging (somewhat verbose) through the Agent Job properties: Steps->Edit->General Logging tab.
and/or
2) Perhaps I'd like to script custom file output for execution of Agent jobs and individual granular activities
within job steps.
Can someone give me some pointers or online examples to follow for how-to.
I'm not getting any output on Agent job operations in the Agent Errorlog.
Thanks,
Zee (Atlanta)

You can edit the maintenance plans and when in design mode, you need to click on the icon. (See pictures is attached). You can enable extended logging and also choose a custom file where you would like to store the logging file.
