Good day, eh.
We have a server that needs to have a Service Pack upgrade, but I'm not sure which SP to install. The problem is that when looking at various properties for the SQL Server database, they seem to be different versions. SSMS on this server shows a different version as well.
I'm assuming that I would need to install SQL Server 2008 SP4 to get up to date but should I be installing a Service Pack for the Express Edition? IS there a SP4 for Express? Should the upgrade be done using a Sharepoint upgrade?
Database instance name\version is: Servername\Sharepoint (SQL Server 10.0.5520)
Properties specify: MSSQL Server Express Edition (64-bit)
SSMS 2008 R2 (v 10.50.2500)
OS is Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise
Thanks,
Bob.

Yep. Apply the latest service pack. It also applies to Express. It's the server properties that tell you what version the server is on and that's what counts for the upgrade. I haven't supported 2008 in a little while, but I'd also check to see if there's a Cumulative Update more recent than SP4. You can add that on top of SP4.

Thanks Grant. That is what I expected, but wanted to be certain.
BTW: There are no CUs after SP4 for 2008. This is where I get my SP & CU info for all versions: http://sqlserverbuilds.blogspot.com/

Check here instead. Microsoft usually keeps these pages pretty up to date. But you're right, no CU for SP4.

Thanks for posting that link, Grant. There are a bunch of sites with the update info, but it's best to get it right from the source.
