Service Pack 3 on 64bit is Failing to Install

  • Hello Everyone

I am trying to install the SP3 on a 2005 64 bit instance, but it is failing, stating that it cannot read from an msi file. The file is there, and it matches in the exact number of bytes to another copy of the file.

Not sure what is causing this.

    Has anyone experienced this?

    Thanks in advance

  • Try manually granting NTFS permission on the installer file to Everyone, or try moving to another folder. Also check the windows event log to see if anything is written there.

edit: also make sure you're running it as administrator if you're on 2008.

  • Yes, I have all of that. There is almost nothing in the event log. I have sent the patch log that is generated, off to Microsoft. They have not gotten back to me yet.

    Thanks
