Is Service Broker activated when Notification Services is installed? I have multiple servers where I set up mail notification and the only time it ever asked for Service Broker to be activated was on a server that didn't have Notification Services. The relation seems logical to me but I can't find it in writing anywhere. thx.

Database Mail uses service broker so it needs to be enabled, this has been true since SQL 2005. I believe but am not sure that Notification Services in SQL 2005 uses Database Mail to send email. I also know that Notification Services was removed from SQL 2008 and is not available so I would recommend not using it and planning a different path moving forward.
