Having setup sql 2000 with windows authentication and using a domain service account I find I always have to retype the service account password for sql to work if I restart the box.
Strange - any ideas?
thanks

Where do you have to retype the password? In the Services dialog?
Are you picking the account using Enterprise Manager? There are certian rights that it needs that will be setup for you if you use EM.

Looks like the User you have selected for your service account has the password expiration policy set. Contact your system admin to correct that

I have the same problem, which is due to security policies in force at this site.
When you retype the password, do you get a message saying that the account has been granted the 'logon as a service' right. If so, it may be something to do with security policies resetting part of the registry to do with the service account.

I agree with Ian. Group policy is probable being pushed down from a domain controller. You could bring up your local policy settings and you can see what is in affect. You can add the local policy snap-in from the MMC add-in.
