Got a bit of an issue with a MS SQL 2000 server, TCP/IP is enabled as a protocol for the server, but the server never begins listening over TCP/IP. The server has been rebooted, all the settings have been checked and appear correct. The line for TCP/IP never even shows in the log file. All we get is: "SQL Server listening on Shared Memory, Named Pipes.". For testing purposes we installed a trial copy of SQL Server 2000 on another machine and copied our databases over to it, the fresh copy started up tcp/ip right away. The only big difference I can notice in the logs is that the test server has "Using 'SSNETLIB.DLL' version '8.0.311'" where our current server has '8.0.194' Could this be causing the issue? Any thoughts/Ideas would be appreciated, if more information is needed let me know.
Thanks.

Is this KB of any help? http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308766

I would also look at the Server network utility (can be found via Start > Programs > SQL) and see if TCP/IP is enabled or disabled.
If it is disabled move it to enabled (not sure if stop/start required)
Good Hunting!
