Hi,
I have recently been told that there are some issues surrounding sql where server names exceed 8 characters. Can anyone tell me if this is true, and if so, what are the issues?
Many thanks

Most of our server names are 15 characters. Never had a problem either.

TRying to find out a bit more, I think it is specifically related to linked servers

i'm googling on this one and i'm seeing that it's a sybase issue and deals with insuring you use 8-char server names when installing sybase sql server on a FAT partition....probly nothing to worry about w/ms sql server...
