Okay now that I have SQL 2005 installed on a brand new server and running successfully with all other software and connections included, management decided to change the windows server name. During the install I know that a few Logins were created using the server name (FTEUser, SQLUser, SQLAGENTUser), can I just rename these? Or do I have to do a new install. We are not on an Active Directory domain, at least not yet. Also is there anything else I should be concerned about?

I always thought that it worked like SQL Server 2000 where a server name did not affect too much or SQL was smart enought to pick it up. I think my SQL 2005 here on my laptop has been through a couple of name changes without a problem.

there is offcourse http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143799.aspx.
But it does not include any reference to the created local users or groups.
Suppose I create a ghost-image after install, apply the ghost to a new server and remame it using the procedure.
Will the user of the source-server have access to the remaned server ???
