Hi,
We are trying to migrate from SQL Server 2000 on Windows NT to SQL Server
2000 on Windows 2000 server with more CPUs and memory.
How shall I handle the naming of the server to minimize the DTS package
modification? In the past, we renamed the new server the same as the
original server once the new server took over the original one.
Any ideas on this issue will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Sang

We do hardware replacement every year. we usually have 2 servers to work with. The old server 'A' with old hardware and the new server 'AX1' with new hardware. The change from NT 4 to Windows 2000 didn't bring any problem.
We usually rename the new hardware to the same name as the original server. Our NT Admin group does the name change in about 15 minutes but it takes us another 90 minutes to complete the rest of database restored. Thre is no problem with DTS packages because we also restored msdb.

Hi,
If you are renaming the server to a different name, you might want to update probably sysdtspackages and sysjobs tables with the name of the new server. You also will need to update the sysservers table with the name of the new server and I.P.(if it changes.)
