One of my server is not reachable. Last time I checked, it had a different IP address. SO the user called me and told me he is unable to login. I go in ping the server and I get positive ping from the server but it showed a different IP address. 5 minutes later when I tried to ping the same server again, it showed a different IP address. Can anyone give me some insight on what this could be?

Usually, a second instance (not the default) can be set to get a dynamic port at restart or can be forced to use a static port. SQL Browser will "publish" the port to the network if you are running it. As for the IP address changing, it seems like the OS or Router might be the culprit.

Looks like problem with the IP than the port . I can only think of the IP to be set to Dynamic here in some way . Like ports the IP can also be static I believe.
