Server Core & SQL 2005

  • Has anyone done this?

Can I put Sever Core + 2005 on a server and then manage 2005 from a remote pc?

Is Server Core 64bit or 32bit?

It doesn't appear that IIS is supported in Server Core. I assume that there is some kind of web server that I can install on Server Core.

Does anyone have any kind of idea of what kind of performance increase I'll get using Server Core?

I have started reading about Server Core, but I was wondering what experiences others have had with it.

Thanks in advance for any responses to this post.

  • From what Microsoft says about it, I'm not sure whether it will work with SQL 2005 or not. Your best bet would be to set up a virtual machine, install Server Core on it, and try to install SQL Server, and see if you can get it to do what you want.
