Ha! I'm not sure what anyone is using, but, speaking of Fusion, Dell sells a 640 GB Fusion PCIe SSD ioDrive for $19,430.99. But it is "Temporarily out of stock." There are other sizes available as well. By the way, Facebook buys (or has bought at any rate) Fusion SSDs for their servers.

I run fusionIO SSDs - pcie cards. Stripe them together, mirror the databases.Absolutely amazing performance.
What size/model are you using? How much did they cost?
The old 640GB duos. 6 of them in each server, striped for now as the database is untidy.
Quite a bit, it's not cheap gb for gb, but you are paying for the insane speeds rather than anything else.
Backing up a database at over 1.5GB/s for instance. Rebuilding a clustered index onto a clean filegroup at 1GB/s. Allows my version of a tpc style test to go literally at 10x speed (just loads of little 'financial' transactions). Lowered latencies, higher throughputs. Stunning.
Reckon once the database is tidied up I'll spread it out in 150GB chunks over the 12 physical disks (each 640 = 2x320s striped in windows). Think that should drive those numbers up dramatically.
Main thing to be aware of is that you need a boatload of cpu to get close to driving the disks - If you get it right(wrong?) you flood the cpu with data, preventing the timeslicing/multitasking happening - ie it all locks solid for 10 seconds while it deals with the data, rather than going off doing other things while the disks seek!
HP also sell ' IO accelerator' cards for their blades - afaik they are the smaller versions of this. Not expensive either for the difference they can make.
