Server cannot be found...

  • Hey guys,

Just wondering, I had my server admin set up a VM box for a dev server...After he finished, I installed SQL Server 2008 on the box...And it was successful, however when I go back to my local machine and try to register it, it says server cannot be found...I can go back to the VM server and open up SQL Server and connect to it but everytime I go to my local, I get that same message...I checked to make sure it allows remote connections, and it does...So Im baffled at why I can not connect to it from my local machine...

Could be any number of reasons, from a firewall blocking the listener port for that VM array to your name-ip resolution (can't remember the name of it... Name Resolution Server?) not being in the listings yet.

Ping your network admin before you bang your head on the wall too hard here.
