separate account for each SQL Server service

  • Installing SQL Server 2008 R2 on Windows Server 2008 R2 in a domain at Windows 2003 functional level.

It is initially going to be used for Report Services, but I'm installing in case the need arises for the other services.

I'm trying to determine what I need to use as the Service Account for each service:

    - SQL Server Agent

    - SQL Server Database Engine

    - SQL Server Analysis Services

    - SQL Server Reporting Services

From what I can tell, the Manage Service Accounts (MSA) are not an option unless we upgrade AD (not my call).

I do not know if Virtual Accounts are appropriate as the server will be accessing data across the network.

Should I just create four domain accounts and use them?

    Thanks,

    Marge

  • I usually use the same AD account for the SQL Server Database Engine and SQL Server Agent but use AD different accounts for SQL Server Analysis Services and SQL Server Reporting Services.
