Hi,
I need to apply a security patch on SQL Server 2008R2 RTM. Could you please provide what precautions need to be take and how to locate proper patch level.

Precautions - backup system and user databases first. Review the fix list. Get a maintenance window to do it. Apply to Dev and QA first.

Thanks for quick reply.
In my scenario, almost 10 to 15 named instances are configured on one server and each instance contains 5 to 20 databases. After installing SQL Server 2008 R2(RTM) , it never got patched. I am new in this company , and no doc. is available, so wondering after applying the patch if its not successful, than would it be possible to roll back the patch?
