HI. I'm running sql server 2000 standard edition with service pack 2. Does this mean I cannot install this latest fix? We haven't gone to SP3/SP3A because the vendor of one of our software applications we run, has not given us the word that their software will run on SP3. I'm just curious how long you wait around on vendors to test out their software against a new service pack.
I've never done a service pack upgrade.

You will need to install Service Pack 3/3a prior to installing MS03-31 (or any future security fixes!).
Microsoft generally only provide patchs for the latest service pack.
As for 3rd party vendors, how long is a piece of string. Some are quick, some you have to chase etc.
