Hi,
I have a column with firstname lastname say 'john fernandez' i have to get jferandez..Please help

Assuming your data in consistent (ROFL) you could do something like this.
declare @SomeValue varchar(20) = 'john fernandez'
select LEFT(@SomeValue, 1) + SUBSTRING(@SomeValue, charIndex(' ', @SomeValue) +1, len(@SomeValue))
This is why we store one and only one value in a column. Storing 2 pieces of information in a single column is a violation of 1NF.
