Schema Comparison Tool

  • Hello everyone... What tool have you used to do a schema comparison between databases? Is there a free version that does a good job?

    Thanks

  • I have used red-gate sql compare and Visual Studio 2005 for database professionals (datadude)

they both do a good job. I know red-gate gives a free trial for 15 days or so, and it's faily cheap to buy as well.

  • The Red-Gate software is good. If you are going to be doing regular comparisons, spend the money. They are also nice enough to sponsor this community for us, so feel free to click their icon in the upper right corner.

Free - well - Quest software has one. In my opinion, you get what you pay for, but in a pinch it will work.

  • I work for Red Gate and I have heard great things about their tools.

However I think any of the tools will work and you can burn the $300 or so easily trying to duplicate the functionality and making mistakes. It's worth the investment for any of these tools.
