Hi There,
We are implementing SAN level replication for our SQL Databases. Can you direct me to any links that guides on step by step activities to be done on the DR server to bring up the database.

Its going to depend on your SAN vendor, the OS you are running and which databases you are replicating (are you doing the system databases?)

Once the steps are done that are relevant to those variables likely you will just have to restart SQL and all databases will be online and usable

Thanks for your time .It is Dell and the OS is Windows 2008 and the DB is SQL server 2008 R2. Can you please advise what would be the status of the database on the DR side once the disks are mounted?

IF the metadata about the databases exist in the system databases on the DR server, they should be usable.

I strongly suggest you set up a test environment and practice the failover.

are you replicating the drive supporting the system databases?

Thanks again. The new DR server would be an exact copy of the old server including the C drive. What I am trying to understand is what are the steps(technical) that I need to do bring up the database on DR site.

So you are booting from SAN? thats probably the best way to leverage SAN replication.

From the SQL side there should be NOTHING to do, should all just work once the server is up. all the effort is on the intel side powering up the hardware. What steps the system people might need to take I am not sure I am afraid.

Hi

what about open transactions on memory (pages in buffer pool). If that's not taken into consideration, when you attach the database or files on the remote location, you may end with corrupted or broken databases. if you do SAN to SAN..

This is what i think but please correct me if I am wrong.
