Sample Databases

  • Hello Everyone

I am a little confused about where the sample databases are located for 2008. I have been to Microsoft site, but the download is a MSI. Where are the actual sample databases? I would much rather simply restore from backup the databases that I want. Not to run some MSI that I have no idea where it is placing the databases.

Can someone give me a clue as to where I can get a copy of the sample databases?

    Thanks

    From there

navigate to http://www.codeplex.com/MSFTDBProdSamples/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx) to download the sample databases and sample database scripts. We have a lot of sample database installers and now zip files for those who have trouble with using the MSI based installers, or who would prefer to inspect the contents before installation.

If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.

  • Take a look at the following thread, especially if your development sql server instance is running under Windows XP.

  • This might be a coincidence, I wrote a blog on Sample Databases from Codeplex website couple of days back, has the link to download.

  • I copied them from Microsoft site. It was just when I tried to open the MSI, I received a message. So, I went to where the MSI had expanded the files, and copied all of the code out into another directory. form that, I was able to create the databases.

What ever happened to simply downloading a backup file and letting us restore it? That was so very much easier.
