I've downloaded the SQL Server 2008 sample databases from CodePlex. When I run the installer, after I accept the license agreement and click next, I get the error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." All the prerequisites for the installation have been met. I've seen references to this problem elsewhere but no solutions. Anybody run into this before?
Server is SQL Server 2008 x64 Enterprise Edition in a two-node cluster with SP1 installed.

Take a look at this article and see if it helps.

No help there. Even in the comments on that page there are references to this error, but no fix. My guess is that it has something to do with policy or permissions, but I have no idea what the specific problem could be.

Have you tried to install them on a different machine?
Is this a fresh install of 2k8 as well?

This is a new installation of SQL 2008. My boss successfully installed the sample databases on SQL 2008 on his XP box.
