It's nice to hear that the worth of DBA's is becoming more apparent, I personally hate the idea of moving IT to different countries because it's cheaper, in the long run its very often the other way around, what seems like a good idea is actually a terrible one.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to my next major review and salary increase (but i'm not holding my breath), my salary is better than good for the area I live in (North East of England) and if I wanted it to increase it significantly then I'd have to move to London, at which point i'd be worse off cause I couldn't afford a house there
Just goes to show that having a good quality of life is often better than a larger pay packet, it certainly is in my case.

Hey its only money. I never wanted to be rich, I just want a little more than I can spend.

In our group, I am the only one who really live SQL Server dba aspects. There are at least three other groups that have SQL Servers, including an ERP group.

Remi, you're a first year programmer, with 4400 posts !! You've had some pretty good ones, so you must be picking this stuff up pretty quickly ! Time to ask for a raise. (Not something I'm very comfortable doing)

I didn't finish 1st in my class, 30% over class average for nothing . That's what actually got me the job. They came to the school looking for a programmer, the teachers offered me the job right away, noone else got the offer. I also have a pretty high salary for my experience/formation/region. I can't complain much.
For the raise, I'll go small this year. Had a lot of "unforseen" problems with the app. But when the new app is designed and in good production/shape, I'll go for it .
I'll just ask for 1 more week paid vacation and 1$/hour increase this year (almost 6% up).
