I just found out, from Safenet support, that the encryption products we've purchased from them are not supported on Sql 2005 / Windows Server 2008, which is what most of our environments use.
I was wondering if anyone else had to upgrade sql due to this? I can't imagine us rolling back to Windows Server 2003, so suspect we'll need to upgrade to either Sql 2008 or Sql 2012. Could be a slow process due to testing, not to mention cost, and management really wanted to get encryption going soon.
I already ran the sql 2012 upgrade advisor and nothing really turned up as a problem.

That is unfortunate that you might have to change platforms because of a lack of Safenet platform coverage. Vormetric Encryption supports SQL Server 2005 on Windows Server 2008. Check out http://www.vormetric.com/products/encryption/database-encryption/index.html . We would be delighted to have you migrate to Vormetric Data Security!
Cheers,
Todd
