running trace and using sp_whoisactive. getting strange results

  • I ran a trace this morning to pull in some details of some query that is running at 7:30am. i was unable to get what i was looking for in my trace. That's not my issue. My issue is when i run sp_whoisactive while running a trace it appears the result set is limited. The query i was looking for wasn't showing in the sp_whoisactive while the trace was running. i kill the trace and now all of the sudden the query i was looking for in the sp_whoisactive shows and says it's been running for several minutes.

Has anyone ever seem this before?

  • Why not use Extended Events. You're on 2016. They're better and generally more accurate.
