running sql server 2000 and 2005 at the same server?

    Hi,

    Maybe my question is weird. But i just want to make sure. Can i run sql server 2000 and sql server 2005 on the same server?

    sorry for my ignorance.

    I have a test server with both on, the 2005 sql server is the default instance and the 2000 sql server is a named instance. I am assuming that the opposite can take place.

    Absolutely.

    This is referred to as a side-by-side installation. Simply choose a named instance when you are installing SQL 2005 and your SQL 2000 server will be untouched.
