We would like to run our SQL 2000 production box on our VMWare server. Our SQL 2000 has only two minor applications waiting to migrate to SQL 2005.
Wondering if there are any links, white papers, pros/cons or if it is even possible to do with SQL 2000?
thanks

Currently I run several SQL2k machines on virtual servers. I have not run into any problems that I can attribute to the platform.

The only issues I've heard of are people overloading the physical machine with VMs and then having IO or CPU issues. You can run 2000 in a virtual environment, just be sure you have good IO paths and enough CPU/memory to handle the load.

We have quite a few live systems running on VMWare (mostly 2005, but not all) - we were cautious to start and only used for internal snapshot/test boxes. But assured by one of our vendors with the latest VMWare (referenced in the above article VI3) we have no problems.
But ensure the VM environment is managed correctly and go for the best if it’s a going to be busy.
And clustering.. depends on what you are getting from virtualisation.
Worth a go, you can but test....
