Running Enterprise Manager on an XP workstation

  • I have SQL 2000 running on my server. It is part of an installation that was completed before I came to the company. I also have SQL2005 running on the server which is part of the SBS 2003 installation.

I am sure that I need to standardize on one of the two but I have a lot of stored procedures and jobs created and I am just learning SQL at this level. My problem is this. I can run Enterprise Manager on my server without a problem. What I want to do is run it from my workstation. I use a program called TeamViewer to log into the server and control it remotely. I would rather keep that license free for other uses and just run EM from my pc. I can run the Query Analyzer but I get an error when I run EM. The error I get is attached.

If I truly should move everything to 2005, then I would appreciate a hint on how to move it effectively.

  • Have you applied SQL 2000 SP4 on your workstation? If not I would try that and then try connecting again.

Alternatively, since you have a SQL 2005 instance also deployed, why not just install the newer management tools (i.e. SSMS)? You can manage both SQL 2000 and 2005 instances with SSMS.
