Running a SQL Count while doing a SQL Insert on the same table, at the same time - is this safe?

  I am doing a SQL Insert of 2 Million records into my DB, and would like to know how many records have been inserted.

  Is it safe to run a SQL Count on the table, while doing a SQL Insert, at the same time?

  if you are counting using e.g;

  select count(*) from yourtable with (nolock)

  Only in this case you'll get a good approx.

  (because the number doesn't have to be exact)
