Round up or down II

  • Great question. I got it right....and still learned a couple of things in the explanation. Thanks.

  • Good question Hugo. I missed . in Round. Still a lot to learn.

    SQL DBA.

  • Almost got me with the '.'

    Think great, be great!

  • Nice question. The discussion from the Aug. 3 question made this one easy. I learned something I didn't know last week, and I used that knowledge today. 🙂

  • Nice question. Thanks Hugo.

  • I got one right, good! (I've used the . myself, usually as 3.0 rather than 3. for - as you say - greater clarity.)

But something went wrong with the Email version of the question, which was:

What wiil (sic) be the result when running this code?

    By Hugo Kornelis

So how were we to know whether we knew the answer to a question that was not stated?!

I posted the code of the question as a graphic, to encourage thinking and research rather than copy/paste behaviour. It seems that such graphics are not always displayed correctly in the newsletter. Why that is, would be something for Steve to find out.

  • Odd. I read mail using Thunderbird, which can handle HTML mail well, and the message had lots of other graphics displaying as usual.

Looking at the message 'source code', I see there IS a graphic link, but it's img alt="" border="0" src="/Images/6388.jpg" />

The URL is missing the root http://www.sqlservercentral.com/ (which the other images do have), so it's looking for 6388.jpg on my disk instead of on SQLServerCentral's!

  • That sounds like a very probably explanation to me.

I've sent a mail to Steve, asking him to check and then fix this. Thanks, David!

  • Thanks for the great question, and the discussion!

  • I got it wrong because I over analyzed. I thought surely it can'y be this easy, Hugo wouldn't give us a cream puff. Must be getting smarter than I give myself credit for.

    Steve

  • Thanks, Hugo!

All clear to me now. 🙂

Reading my question now, many weeks after submitting it, I am wondering if I even should have written it like this - QotD should test SQL understanding, not reading ability

I had noticed the dot, but thought it would raise a syntax error. 😛

By the way, I agree it's best to use pictures to ask QotDs. You don't want it to become a 'copy/paste/F5' Quiz. :hehe:

    Best regards,

    Ronald
