Helle Friends,
I am getting the Root element missing error message while trying to open an RDL and I have attached the error screenshot as well.
We use VMWare client to login to a Virtual machine and I work on BIDS in the virtual machine. I am getting this error message only when dtsx packages or RDL files are sent via email. However, when these files are zipped and sent through mail, I am able to extract these files and work without any issues.
I am not really sure what happens to the packages or RDLs when these are sent through emails. Has anybody come acrss this scenario? Eventhough sending the files in a zip folder works as a workaround, what could be the permanent fix?
Your help would be appreciated
Thanks

It sounds like maybe an email antivirus scanner is stripping the root element. I would stick with the zip method as a permanent fix.
