rollback for migration from SQL2000 to SQL7

  • Hi,

we are planning migration from SQL7(NT4) to SQL2000(W2003).

Can you share your experiences of migration from SQL7 to SQL2000 with me? What is the tried and tested way for rollback?

    Kindest Regards,

  • If you want the ability to rollback from SQL 2K to SQL 7 make sure that you DON'T use any new features added into SQL 2K, make sure the database compatability level is set AND remains and 7.0 and you should be fine.

I have done several upgrades to SQL 2K and after testing the systems extensively PRIOR to migrating the production system have not had to rollback to SQL 7.

Another thing you will need to do is keep a copy of the last FULL backup of the SQL 7 system and ALL of the inputs that were done against the SQL 2K system just in case the database won't re-attach into your 7.0 environment.  This way you can run the inputs through the 7.0 system and get back to the same production point if need be.

    Good Luck.

    Good Hunting!
