Hello,
I'm in the process of revising/prep'ing for the MS 70-431 exam, with most of my study based on the official MS Self-Paced Training Kit book.
As I don't administer a db on a daily basis I'm finding it at times somewhat difficult to relate certain topics to real-life scenarios.
I was wondering if anyone knew of any extensive/thorough tutorials covering the multitude of topics in this exam?
Or, if anyone has any pointers on how they prep'd for this exam (especially if being a dba is not their main role)?
Thanks,
Dom

Hi Dom.
I just passed 70-431 yesterday! I too, was finding it a little hard to relate all the topics to my job. For example we don't do log shipping or mirroring, but we do have some test servers that aren't used too much so I would take some time to research and experiment with some of the things my company doesn't use.

Well done!
I'm only scoring around 55% in the Training Kit Exam at the mo', so still some way to go!

The scenarios I saw weren't overly complex, but they cover a wide variety of add/edit/delete objects (add user, edit linked server, etc.), so the best thing is to be sure you're comfortable working with SSMS and can find your way around. From there, read carefully, and be sure that you can change permissions, add users, change linked servers and other objects, etc.

Thanks Steve,
I just think I need to 'buckle-down'!
I've also been looking around for free/trial RSS feed apps that I can use to populate a DB, thus enabling me to work with data that is relatively 'live' and subject to change. Are you aware of anything that would do this?
cheers,
dom
p.s. you've got a good website/community here!

Hi Dom,
If your looking for some test data, give this tool a shot:
http://www.red-gate.com/products/SQL_Data_Generator/
Its pretty good for generating realistic data for testing whilst studying for 70-431.
