You can't restore a newer/higher version of SQL Server to an older version (e.g. 2008 R2 --> 2000). You can go the other way (older to newer), though that doesn't help you in this situation.
That being said, how large is the database? Can you script out the database and tweak the SQL to create the DB structure on the 2000 server (being careful to remove any newer features not in 2000). Then perhaps use SSIS to move the data from the 2008 R2 server to your newly created 2000 db.
Just a thought,
Rob

No need to script it. Just use the Data Export Wizard.

U can only script the Structures of Tables, Stored Procedure, Functions & Views & then run that script on 2000..
Regarding data.. just create a DB manually on 2000 same as it was on 2008 & then use Import/ Export Data & transfer the data between both servers.. this is what i know..
Experts are here to guide you more on this (Example - Gail) 🙂

You can script the entire thing including data if you want. Depending on the amount of data this may be unrealistic of course.
Certainly you don't need to create the DB manually. Use the generate scripts feature, make sure you hit the advanced section so you can script all the indexes and such.

As Rob said in his first post....NO. You can't restore a newer versions backup on an older version.
All of the subsequent posts explain in detail how you can get the data and the structures back to 2000.
