Restoring Reporting Services to Standby Server

  • (I'm a RS Noob)

I want to set up a semi-stanby server for our Reporting Services application, and other associated databases. It is acceptable to have a bit of time to manually switch over. Currently I back up the ReportServer and ReportServerTempDB databases from "MyRS_Server" each day and push them to "RS_StandByServer" . I then restore them to "RS_StandByServer". I have RS configured on "RS_StandByServer", and it appears to have the same settings as "MyRS_Server".

What else do I need to do ? Copy and restore the RS keys to StandbyServer ?

Do I need top copy over the RS*.config files and replace them on RS_StandbyServer ?

  • I have made some progress, but not sure about how the data sources get defined on the original & standby servers.

Currently getting this error when trying to run a report:

An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)

Cannot create a connection to data source 'DataSource1'. (rsErrorOpeningConnection)

Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'.

  • I think you have done the correct first 2 steps...restore SSRS databases and the encryption key.

I think that you will need to check the datasource for the report - does it specify credentials that require the SSRS service account to connect to the database that has your data ?

I generally do not use the SSRS service account - normally, I would use an application specific account, if needed.
