restoring onto an active mirror

    how does a restore to a principal Db affect the mirror?

    in our case we have a pre-production 08 DB on the principal which on the day of the transition to production will need to do a restore on from our old 2005 server.

    should i wait and do mirroring post production status?

    or is it ok to do a restore on a mirrored DB?

    You'll need to stop the mirroring session prior to the restore, and you'll need to redo your mirroring session after the restore.

    I'm pretty sure if you try to restore over the top of a principal database that is mirrored before ending the mirroring session, you'll just get an error message and it won't do the restore.
