whenever doing a restore of AS 2000 .cab files in 2005 i notice 2005 AS is prompting only
for .abf. is there another way to use AS 2000 .cab files in the 2005 AS environment?
thoughts?

Not that I have seen.
I would expect this to not work. The AS backup strategy is to copy the files from the file system and basically zip them. The file format for OLAP storage changed pretty drastically between the two versions. I doubt what you are trying to do is supported.

true... true...
never hurts to ask though.
who knows... maybe someone came up with a way you can simply move them over.
ahh well.
thanks for the feed back.

Even the 2K to 2K5 ugrade wizard for Analysis Services is a POS way of doing things. It was nice that they gave us something, but if you don't spend the time to set up your attribute relationships, you end up with something that performs poorly anyway.
They are differenr products. It is a bit like trying to upgrade a GIF of a hand written note to a Word document. You can get an OCR program to do something, but it will be unlikely to be something useful without doing some clean up when you are done.

well put...
"...like trying to upgrade a GIF of a hand written note to a Word document."
that puts it in perspective. not worth the trouble.
i'll see about rebuilding in pure 2005 environment.
thanks for the heads-up.
